Steak on a Rock

Get in touch with your inner caveman/woman. This meal is simple and way more satisfying than a trip to Outback.

Prep time: 15-35 minutes, plus the time it takes to burn your fire down to hot coals
Feeds: 1 hungry carnivore who likes their meat rare

1 16-ounce steak
salt and pepper

First, find a flat rock slightly larger than the steak. Start a nice hot fire and let it burn until you have hot coals. Place the flat rock, flat side up, onto the coals, and wait for the rock to get hot. (It should be hot enough when you can flick a drop of water on it and the water evaporates instantly). Season the steak with salt and pepper, then place it on the flat rock. Cook it for 5 to 15 minutes (medium rare to medium well). Turn the steak over and cook it an additional 5 to 15 minutes. Remove it from the rock and eat it. Flip the rock, cooking side down, into fire to burn off steak residue.
